1. Introduction
Welcome to Kadam, a fitness tracking and social sharing application developed by Hammad Khan ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the Kadam app, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or using Kadam, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Kadam is a free app. We do not run advertisements, sell your personal data to third parties, or share your information with data brokers.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account & Profile Information
When you register, we collect:
Display name and username
Email address
Profile photo (optional)
Short bio / description (optional)
Account creation date
Authentication tokens (access and refresh tokens, stored encrypted on your device)
You may sign up with an email and password or via Google Sign-In. For Google Sign-In, we receive your name and email from Google; we do not receive your Google password.
2.2 Location Data
Location is only collected while you are actively recording an activity. We do not track your location in the background or when the app is closed.
During an active recording session, we collect:
GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude) approximately every 3 seconds
Timestamps for each GPS point
Start and end location addresses (reverse-geocoded)
Encoded route polyline for map display
This location data is used to calculate distance, pace, speed, elevation, and to display your activity route on a map.
2.3 Health & Fitness Data
Kadam records and stores the following workout data:
Sport type (Run, Ride, Walk, Hike)
Distance, duration (moving time and elapsed time)
Average and maximum speed, pace
Elevation gain, elevation loss, max and min elevation
Calories burned (estimated from activity data)
Per-kilometer split data
Perceived effort level you enter
Tags you add to an activity
With your permission, Kadam also reads the following data from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android) to display richer stats in your activity details:
Heart rate — average, maximum, minimum, and per-second samples during your workout, used to compute training zones
Cadence — steps per minute (running/walking/hiking) or pedaling RPM (cycling), average and maximum
Blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) — average and minimum percentage during your workout, shown in the activity detail view
Steps — total step count during the activity window
Active calories — energy expenditure reported by your device or wearable (kcal), shown alongside your estimated calories
Sleep sessions — sleep duration and stages (if available), used for the Recovery & Readiness section of your profile. Sleep data is read from the health platform and is never uploaded to Kadam's servers.
Health data is read only when you grant permission. You will see a permission prompt (Apple Health or Health Connect) before any health data is accessed. You can revoke access at any time from your device's Health settings. If you decline, core tracking features (GPS, pace, distance) continue to work normally.
Heart rate samples and SpO2 readings are transmitted to our servers solely to display them in your activity detail view and to compute analytics (e.g., HR training zones). They are associated with your activity and are deleted when your account or activity is deleted. This data is never used for advertising or sold to third parties.
2.4 Photos, Media & Camera
Kadam requests access to your device camera and photo library so you can:
Take or select a profile photo
Capture or attach photos to your activity posts
Camera access is only used when you actively choose to take or upload a photo. We never access your camera silently, in the background, or without your direct action.
Photos you upload are stored on Firebase Storage (Google Cloud). Images are compressed on-device before upload to reduce data usage. We do not read or store EXIF metadata (e.g., GPS tags embedded in photos) from your images.
You can revoke camera permission at any time in your device's system Settings → Apps → Kadam → Permissions. Revoking camera access does not affect existing uploaded photos or any other app functionality.
2.5 Social & Interaction Data
Users you follow and users who follow you
Kudos (likes) you give or receive on activities
Comments you write or receive
Users you have blocked
Reports you submit about activities or other users
2.6 Notifications Data
We store a device push notification token to send you in-app notifications for follows, kudos, and comments. You can disable notifications at any time in Settings.

2.8 Usage & Technical Data
We collect limited technical information to keep the app stable and improve your experience, including:
API request logs (server-side, for debugging)
App version and operating system version
Network error information (to diagnose connectivity issues)
Screen views and in-app events (e.g., feature usage, button taps) — collected via Firebase Analytics to understand which features are used and improve the app
Crash reports and non-fatal error logs — collected via Firebase Crashlytics to identify and fix bugs
Analytics and crash data are not linked to your name or email address. Firebase Analytics uses a randomly generated app instance ID. We do not use this data for advertising, and it is not sold or shared with third parties beyond Google Firebase (our analytics processor). You can review Google's data practices at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

We do not use your data for targeted advertising, automated profiling, or sale to third parties.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
4.1 Public Activities
Activities you post with Public visibility are visible to all Kadam users, including users you haven't followed. This includes your display name, profile photo, activity stats, route map (if you enable it), and photos. You can set any activity to Private before or after posting to restrict visibility.
4.2 Service Providers (Subprocessors)
We use the following providers to operate Kadam. They process data on our behalf and are contractually bound to protect it:
Google Firebase Authentication — account sign-in and session management
Google Firebase Storage — profile photos and activity media
Google Firebase Analytics — anonymised in-app event tracking to understand feature usage (no advertising profile is built)
Google Firebase Crashlytics — crash reports and non-fatal error logs for app stability
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Kadam, its users, or the public.
4.4 Business Transfer
If Kadam is acquired, merged, or its assets are transferred, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service.
Account Deletion
You can delete your Kadam account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. Upon requesting deletion:
Your account is immediately deactivated and your profile is hidden from other users.
Your data is permanently purged from our servers within 30 days of the deletion request.
Cached copies in backup systems may persist for up to 90 days before being overwritten.
Content you posted publicly (activities, comments) is removed along with your account.
You may also contact us at KadamRun@gmail.com to request deletion of specific data without deleting your account.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data:
All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encrypted connections.
Authentication tokens are stored in an encrypted DataStore (Android Jetpack) on your device.
Access tokens have a short expiry; refresh tokens are rotated on use.
Media files are stored in Firebase Storage with access controls.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to using industry-standard practices.

7. Children's Privacy
Kadam is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has created an account on Kadam, please contact us at KadamRun@gmail.com and we will promptly delete the account and associated data.
By using Kadam, you represent that you are at least 13 years of age.
8. Your Rights & Choices
Access & Correction
You can view and edit your profile information (name, username, bio, profile photo) at any time from your profile settings.
Activity Visibility
Each activity can be set to Public or Private. Private activities are only visible to you.
Notifications
You can enable or disable push notifications in Settings. You can also manage notifications through your device's system settings.
Block & Report
Block any user to prevent them from seeing your content and from interacting with you.
Report activities or users that violate our community guidelines.
View and manage your blocked users list in Settings → Blocked Users.
Account Deletion
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time via Settings → Delete Account. See Section 5 for the data purge timeline.

To request a copy of the data we hold about you, or to request deletion of specific data, contact us at KadamRun@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Third-Party Services
Kadam integrates the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
We do not integrate third-party advertising networks or data broker services. All third-party SDKs listed above are used solely for app functionality, stability monitoring, and anonymised usage analytics — not for advertising or data sales.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where feasible, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Kadam after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
